"we need to stop thinking that what was done hundreds of years ago applies today"In a general sense: I do not recall either the Quran or the Hadiths supporting the notion of a time limit on any of their rules. If it was the word of God then, it is the word of God now.
Solaire of Astora OldBoris • 9 days ago
Yeah the Bible never said it either but look at Christianity, that's moved forward, slowly yes but it has moved on.You disparage devout Muslims then you disparage Misanthropia for being open minded...Do you just hate them full stop?
OldBoris Solaire of Astora • 9 days ago
And I'm not "disaparaging" Misanthropia. The Quran is held by most Muslims to be the timeless, literal word of God, sent to Muhammed by an angel, so I find it a bit strange that there are people who call themselves Muslims while disbelieving in that central premise of Islam. After all, the Quran states of itself, in 4:59:"O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result."That does two things: (1) it makes the Quran and the more reliable Hadiths eternal law, and (2) it makes sure that the most literal interpretation must always be taken over less literal interpretations, since disagreements must be judged by the text of the Quran and the Hadiths.

Anyone can believe what they want mate. who are you to tell someone that they are following their religion is wrong?
OldBoris MikeFoley • 9 days ago
It's not me, it's their holy book, which makes quite clear that a believer is one who faithfully follows all rules stated by the Quran and by Muhammed. Those rules are, in turn, quite clear.
kingnotail OldBoris • 9 days ago
Why do you waste so much time reading the Quran? Did no one tell you? Religion is a load of shit!
OldBoris kingnotail • 9 days ago
It may be a load of shit, but then it's a load of shit that most people in the world believe in. Atheists are a fairly small percentage of the human population, and by the year 2050 the number of atheists as a percentage of the total human population will actually have declined. So what happens in the field of religion will affect the fields of politics, diplomacy, war, law and culture. It's good to be prepared and informed.

Muslims tried to kill my husband he doesn't hate them.He realizes that some people are good and some people are bad and holding all of one group responsible for the actions of a few is stupid and childish.
Ji99a RadioactivePixie • 9 days ago
So if you go to downtown Detroit and you see a couple of black people hanging out down the road, do you change your route or continue your route?Racial profiling is necessary. A women in a veil is more likely to explode than a lady in bikini.
p1t1o Ji99a • 9 days ago
You are right, context is everything. However, given no specific context, racial profiling is racism by definition. For example, a lady in a bikini hanging out by the road in downtown detroit is probably a prostitute, but are all the girls in bikinis at the beach prostitutes?
Anomandaris p1t1o • 8 days ago
How would you classify a middle class black couple that did that? Are they racist also? Its not racist to be aware of your surroundings and the potential dangers.
p1t1o Anomandaris • 6 days ago
That did what? Hang out on a Detroit Street corner? Im not sure what you are getting at."Its not racist to be aware of your surroundings and the potential dangers."Exactly, sortof, thats where context comes in.
MyGloveCarrotShoe p1t1o • 8 days ago
That depends. Are they hanging out in the ghetto ass looking part of the city TRYING to be seductive by dressing intentionally slutty with the "walk and attitude" of soliciting ones own body at 12 at night or are they at the beach or in the hot sun in mid day minding they're own business dressing for the wether?
p1t1o MyGloveCarrotShoe • 6 days ago
Well yes you can be more detailed about the context but I think my point was clear. Peace!

Then they will suffer for that sin. And their parents will also suffer because they didn't teach them the message of kindness and compassion. Simple as that.
OldBoris Misanthropia • 9 days ago
It is not a sin, and I would like to know where in the Quran you found the message of kindness and compassion.
Ivan ™ OldBoris • 9 days ago
Heres another beautiful quote of peace from the Quran" Kill the idolaters ( infidels) wherever you find them, and capture them, and blockade them, and watch for them at every lookout...” (Quran 9:5).
OldBoris Ivan ™ • 9 days ago
That's from the at-Tawbah, a very interesting verse (and the last word on Muslim relations with non-Muslim tribes) but unfortunately overlooked by those in the West who believe Islam to be fundamentally peaceful.
Pharaoh4768 OldBoris • 9 days ago
You know you and the jhadists actually have a similar tactic, use verses out context to justify your view point while leaving out other details. People believe that if Islam disappears , terrorism will disappear with it , wrong, the day Islam disappear is the day Hinduism/ Judaism/Budhasim becomes the new poster boy of terrorism and its followers are enemies of Liberty
OldBoris Pharaoh4768 • 9 days ago
If you think it's "out of context", what is the context for the at-Tawbah?Before you start about a defensive war that was going on at the time: it was revealed long after Muhammed's men had captured Mecca, about three years after Muhammed defeated his main tribal enemies and had their men and boys beheaded, and at a time when Muhammed's army was going out to attack the Byzantine Empire.
Pharaoh4768 OldBoris • 9 days ago
In the verse before it, Muslims are ordered to honor any peace treaty with anyone and to never attack them. The verse you're talking about refers to war time in which you're supposed to kill enemies wherever you find them. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, please try to understand Arabic history and culture .
OldBoris Pharaoh4768 • 9 days ago
The at-Tawbah specifically serves to cancel previous rules. In addition, the at-Tawbah actually announces that four months after its revelation, a universal Muslim versus non-Muslim war ought to break out.
Pharaoh4768 OldBoris • 9 days ago
Yeah , no argument on that . A unified Arab state would definitely get the Byzantine empire's attention
OldBoris Pharaoh4768 • 8 days ago
It was a command to all Muslim warriors, not a statement of fact. And it's worth mentioning that around this four-month grade period for non-Muslims, the Muslims actually went ahead and attacked Byzantine soldiers near Tabouk.
Susan Schoner OldBoris • 9 days ago

wow, your nightwalking job really has you getting around for you to be able to say "no one in the west..." as if you know what every single westerner thinks. you're obviously drunk, give your pimp his cut and go home.

Narrated Abu Huraira (ra): The Prophet ﷺ said, “When Allah created the Creation, He wrote in His Book—and He wrote (that) about Himself, and it is placed with Him on the Throne–‘Verily My Mercy overcomes My Anger.'” (Sahih al-Bukhari, 7404)
OldBoris Misanthropia • 9 days ago
That is rather a stretch, especially since it comes from the Hadiths. If we read the Quran itself, which most Muslims (the Sunni ones, anyway) hold to be the literal word of God, we find another message entirely.Quran 8:12: [Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."
Misanthropia OldBoris • 9 days ago
“ There is no compulsion in religion…” (Qur’an, 2:256)“He does not forbid you to deal kindly and justly with anyone who has not fought you for your faith and driven you out of your homes, God loves the just.” (Qur’an, 60:8)We are supposed to deal with all with respect and compassion. Terrorism, as of today, is tearing apart families, lives and spreading disorder. We, the majority of Muslims, don't advocate for that.
Ji99a OldBoris • 9 days ago
Easy peasy."...orphans and the needy, give them something and speak kindly to them. And those who are concerned about the welfare of their own children after their death, should have fear of God [Treat other people's Orphans justly] and guide them properly."
— Quran (Surah 4, "The Women", vv. 8-9)
OldBoris Ji99a • 9 days ago
This is a very specific rule, inspired not by the Arabian desire for a kind God but by the worldly need at the time for a system of protection for the children of Muhammed's soldiers, who in their constant tribal warfare had a high chance of dying and wanted their children to have good lives.
